Disability Employment Initiative (DEI)

In 2012, Indiana was one of seven states to receive grant funding to implement the Disability Employment Initiative (DEI).  The initiative is jointly funded and administered by the U.S. Department of  Labor (USDOL) Employment and Training Administration and its Office of Disability Employment Policy.

DEI aims to improve education, training, and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities (ages 18-64) who are:

  • Unemployed
  • Underemployed
  • And/or Receiving Social Security disability benefits.

DEI is currently administered in the following Northwest Indiana counties:  Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke.  To learn more about DEI, Northwest Indiana residents can contact the nearest WorkOne NWI office.
