A partnership between St. Mary Medical Center and Hobart High School resulted in statewide recognition and a college scholarship for a senior student at the school.
The hospital and high school were awarded the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s inaugural School Counseling-Business Partnership of Year award at a luncheon ceremony held in Indianapolis in early February.
The state Chamber listed the following reasons in selecting Hobart High School and St. Mary Medical Center:
• Hospital sponsorship of Hobart’s Promise Indiana 529 college savings program
• Establishment of a health care clinic in the schools to meet the needs of both students and their families
• The wide range of work-based learning experiences and credential opportunities for high school students at the hospital.
Hobart senior Rachel Gayton received a $1,000 scholarship. She will be attending Ball State University this fall; Gayton had been an intern in the hospital’s pediatric unit. Her career plan is to become a nurse practitioner.
