Jeffery Jones was preparing for retirement after 24 years with the United States Postal Service. After his retirement, he didn’t plan on leaving the workforce. Instead, he became interested in starting a new career path. Working over two decades for the same company left Jones feeling unprepared to re-enter the workforce let alone start a new career path on his own. He was unsure of how to prepare a resume and interview properly in today’s job market. He needed help, and he knew WorkOne was the place to go to get it.
As a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, Jones received priority service from WorkOne’s Veteran Services staff. At first, he was introduced to CNC training being offered at Ivy Tech Community College. As he continued his career counseling from his career advisor and talent recruiter, Jones soon found out that there was a need for skilled manufacturing employees in Northwest Indiana. This new discovery led Jones to start attending WorkOne’s manufacturing job clubs where he learned more about the opportunities available to him in manufacturing that wouldn’t require him to go through training, but instead use the skills he already had.
Jones attended hiring events at WorkOne Portage and in the community where he made a connection with a local manufacturing employer, Camaco Portage. That connection quickly turned into a career opportunity for Jones. His goal of having a job to transition into upon retirement was met as he started his new career as a Production Assembler at Camaco Portage within two weeks of his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service. Jones was very satisfied with the assistance and support he received from all WorkOne staff. With the help of WorkOne, he was able to use the transferable skills he gained while working in distribution as a mail carrier and transition into a new career in a different industry.
