THE CHALLENGE
Stephen Navarre came to WorkOne looking for more than just a job to get by. He was looking for a long-term career, one that he could be happy with and that would help him to provide for his family. Navarre spent five years in the United States Marine Corps. After his time in the military Navarre worked in sales and marketing for five years. Later, he became a stay at home dad to care for his children before deciding he was ready for a career. He began applying to open positions on his own and after not hearing back from employers, he knew he needed a better connection to find what he was looking for. He heard about WorkOne and decided to take advantage of the free services they offer to help him begin his career.
THE SOLUTION
Navarre didn’t want to limit himself to opportunities based on his previous work experience, but he was unsure of how to present himself on his resume to show he had transitional skills for a career in other industries. WorkOne staff provided Navarre with the resume assistance he needed to showcase the transitional skills he had from the military and his previous work experience. After completing a working resume, he was prepared to attend upcoming hiring events and job fairs. Navarre attended a hiring event with MCP USA and a job fair in East Chicago.
THE OUTCOME
Navarre had great success at the East Chicago Job Fair. He was interviewed and hired on the spot by South Shore Line as a Train Collector. He was excited to find a career that he could see himself enjoying and that would pay well enough to provide for his family. He has been employed since November and plans to make a career out of it.
